Short term

Last week, the average Dutch spot price was 80 €/MWh. Midweek, wind speeds increased significantly in both the Netherlands and Germany, leading to a substantial amount of renewable generation. On Sunday, there was another brief surge in wind power production. In the afternoon hours, prices dropped to around 0 €/MWh, prompting some offshore wind farms to curtail their production on a day-ahead basis.

Gas prices remained below 40 €/MWh, with prices dropping by nearly 1 euro by the end of the week. For example, the November contract closed 70 cents lower at 39.2 €/MWh. Coal prices also fell by around 2 euros, with the November delivery contract closing at 107.5 €/Ton. CO2 prices dropped by 2 euros, settling at 62.3 €/MWh.

Dutch power forwards for the coming months also declined. The November contract became almost 3 euros cheaper, closing at 89 €/MWh, while the December contract fell by 5 euros to 89.3 €/MWh.

Additionally, last week, the Netherlands joined the PICASSO platform, allowing balancing services from neighboring countries to help maintain balance on the Dutch grid.

Long term

The Dutch power forward for 2025 dropped by nearly 3 euros to 84.8 €/MWh. Gas prices fell by 70 cents to 38.6 €/MWh, while CO2 prices decreased by 2.5 euros to 64.2 €/EUA. The clean spark spread worsened by half a euro, reaching approximately -7.4 €/MWh.
